Studying in Dutch

Nederlands voor halfgevorderdenStudying in Dutch can be quite challenging if Dutch isn’t your first language. How can you convey your message in a presentation, for example? How do you properly address your professor in a Dutch email, and what do people mean when they talk about a ‘werkgroep’? In the course Studying in Dutch you will learn how to effectively express yourself in academic Dutch. Register for this course and make sure that you are well prepared when you enter the Dutch university system.
Classes

The focus of the classes is mainly on speaking. Assignments are done individually or in groups. The classes include activating exercises.

This course covers the following areas:

  • vocabulary development
  • standard sentences and idioms
  • discussion language
  • reading and listening strategies
  • participating in seminars
  • presenting in Dutch
  • writing emails
  • self-study strategies

Target audience

Anyone who wants to improve his/her general Dutch skills in order to attend university classes in Dutch.

Objectives

Improving all four language skills (speaking, writing, listening, reading). In addition, attention will be paid to expanding academic vocabulary and improving knowledge of grammar. At the end of the course, the participant will feel more confident in these areas.

Length and certificate of participation

This course consists of 9 sessions of 2 hours . The course dates are listed under the tab “Dates, location and price”. If you follow at least 7 of the 9 classes, you will receive a certificate of participation at the end of the course.

Level and study load

Self-study

You will need to spend 3 to 4 hours a week on self-study activities.
